I am starting to get a little frustrated with this car now. I have had it 5 weeks and it is going into the shop for the 2nd time.

A little history: 1.5 weeks ago I took it to my Indy, as I noticed large amounts of oil on the garage floor every morning (think 4-6" diameter). It was diagnosed as a faulty seal behind the alternator bracket. Aftermarket warranty took care of that to the tune of $680. A few days after getting the car back, it started to idle rough during hot starts. Did a little research and replaced the Pressure Regulating Valves. Car still idling rough on occasion...sometimes so bad it will stall out and throw P0300 (and 02,04,05,06,08).

The car only has 67,000 on it and seemed in great shape when I bought it. To compare, the wifes E46 has 108,000 on the odometer and I have only had to replace the thermostat and the key (bad transmitter).

Has anyone else had this hot start problem (car seems fine after sitting and cooling for a few hours).

Hi,

P030X codes mean random misfire. What tool did you use to scan the codes? Did you see any other codes stored in memory -> like camshaft sensors?

I used my OTC Tools OBD reader. I only got the random misfire codes, and it only does it on hot starts. Most of the time it will only idle very rough, but everyonce in a while it makes a horrible sound, iddles really rough with 1000rpm fluctuations and will stall out (this is usually when it throws the code).

It doesn't seem to be a camshaft sensor. I had the intake sensor go bad in my 06 3 series, and it had general drivability issues. The E60 drives fine after about 30 seconds after the hot start.

Gonna take it into the shop, if no one has any ideas, but unfortunately Military hours limit me to the free time I have to get it there.

Sounds like it might be one or two of your coil packs have gone bad. I just had one go bad on my 545i and it was running like crap (hiccuping on take off and accelaration). $79 part from dealer...the key is diagnosing which one. I had to take it to the dealer.

GOOD LUCK!

I had same issue my intake manifold control unit flap had broken. I had hiccuping until i drove....idling was shit but when away when i drove. Car felt like it was going to stall. Hooked up to GT1 and tested each injector, each coil, each plug each cylinder etc etc..... disassembled car and found that broke. i have one in my wife's car so I know what's wrong with mine. I went to dealer and looked at their part, I can fix mine. It's a spring loaded motor...even if the flap stays off or open who gives a damn. my problem was the flap was totally broken and stayed in closed until the incoming air forced it open. So idling was not good.

But good thing because I needed a thorough engine cleaning
