What do we get for having roadside assistance--free or otherwise? For example, do we get free towing or do we just get someone to contact a towing company for us free?

Correct, the difference being UNLIMITED, mileage, whereas it used to expire the same as warranty which is 50,000 miles which in my case would be before 4 years. And previously they indicated it was a third party but that it could be different 3rd party in different areas of the US.

I was struck by the fact that a CPO gets 6 years of Roadside Assistance. I would have thought it would have been reversed 6 for new and 4 for used.

My BMW Assist renewal notice (received about a month ago) says Roadside Assistance provided by Cross Country Motor Club Inc., whereas the BMW Roadside Assistance brochure on the web site says that Roadside Assistance is provided by AAA.

I wonder if they have difference providers for BMW Assist customers and non-BMW Assist customers. That would make sense.

I put in a quick note in the testing thread. U probably saw it by now.

Roadside no mile restriction - 4 years from date in service new; 6 years DIS as CPO:
U should receive a credit card sized card listing the RA items: Just like AAA
1) Out of fuel - flat tire - jump start along roadside
2) Tow to nearest BMW or up to an additional 50 miles to your BMW center of choice
3) Trip interruption reimbursement
4) Trip routing services
5) Emergency lockout services

BMW assist is different - I have attached a PDF that helps explain.

BMW Warranty is yet another program. Thats what gets us replacement parts AND CIP upgrades

and finally

BMW Maintenance Program is the last of the four BMW provided programs I am aware of.
This gets u free replacements for wear and tear items such as brake pads and rotors, wiper blades, belts, filters, oil, etc.


Every purchaser in US should have received phamplets on the Warranty and Maintenance programs.

All or none of these may apply in ROW and to differing levels when they do apply.

Just got off the phone with BMW Assist. The lady said road side assistance is basically the samething without the convenience of making phone calls Via SOS, instead you have to call via cellphone, and they will do the dispatch etc.

Once u look over the PDF though, you will see that RA is a subset of BMW Assist. However, you retain RA regardless of purchasing BMW Assist or not. On the other hand if BMW Assist really worked as they describe it has a lot of features over and above RA, such as Stolen Vehicle recovery, Automatic Collision Notification, Service Requests, etc. I am not advocating this by any means, just pointing out some of the differences.
