I have been noticing that when I put my car into reverse, and step on the gas, the RPM's rise to about 1500 rpm before the car even starts to go. If I do this too fast I get the lovely trans slam. Took the car in and they updated the software to the latest version and the symptoms are still there. They tried to tell me that since the shifter is not manually connected to the trans that this delay is expected. Well my last 4 bmw's have had "wire connected" shifters and never had that delay. Not to mention the delay stated happening months ago. Has anyone experienced this before? I have a strong feeling that they are trying to not replace my transmission because it will be a warranty thing.

I do have SAT so if anyone has SAT can chime in that would be helpful. 2008 550 w/ 40k miles

There is a short delay in my 545 as well... I wouldnt step on the gas until you feel reverse grab - good way to drop that tranny... I dont think anything is wrong with your car.

Same problem here as well.

Did the dealers replace your tranny fluid while it was there? Replacing the fluid may/may not help. I'm considering changing mine (only at 67K) soon to see if that helps, before I start to blame the tranny. With that said, I've read for some that it worked and for others they had to have their tranny replaced.

This was exactly the problem I took my 05' 545 while under warranty to the dealer which resulted in a new mecatronics unit. That was around 43k miles. Now I'm around 73k and the problem seems to be coming back along with weird fluctuation in PRM when the car it idle.

Oooooo that sounds like the start of something bad . At the very least have your dealer or an experienced BMW indy with the proper equipment interrogate your transmission - esp fluid level and leaks. And until that gets done I'd delay hitting the gas until you actually feel the transmission engage the gear (reverse?) you've selected.

Having a warranty helps - and it's sad that they would delay a proper repair because of that (except that claims might partially come out of their profit margin).

With regards to the transmission slam, have you tried the often debated and highly controversial transmission reset?? It took care of some of the "slam" I was experiencing. There is a very long thread about it here in the forum. It couldnt hurt.
