The problem is usually a seat mat or a seat belt sensor that needs replacement. I had this happen to me x1 the first year I had my car and it was replaced and never occured again...

It's a minor fix and there are no other major problems usually with the system. i suggest letting the sa look at it and check the obd for logged codes. this is not something you want to take lightly irrespective if you're out of warranty or not as this limits the airbag deployment and protective functions of the vehicle......

sorry....wish i could say you shouldnt worry about it but if there's one thing that gets my attention in my car its when a safety system doesnt work the way it should.

take it to your dealer asap.

I'm with BMW of North America, LLC. I've passed this message on to a BMW NA Customer Relations Representative who will be in touch with you soon.

I took my 2004 in and had the class action reprogram done. They said they couldn't find the actual program listed in the CA letter but that they loaded the latest iDrive firmware which should include it. Now, about 90 days later, the passenger restraint malfunction light has come on again. My car is out of warranty. I am at a loss as to what to expect now. I hope I don't have to pay money to make an erronous error message go away.

Hi there, I am new to this Forum. I just recently purchased a 2004 545 with sport pkg. The warranty expires Oct 2008. I went to the dealer with the "passanger airbag malfunction " warning . He stated that because the DRL's were not activated by BMW, that the warranty is null and void and that the reset or re-program will be cahrgeable. Just so you know, I went to BMW first for DRL activation. They stated that they could not have it done for 3 months!!! I had no choice but to go to a BMW specialist. Now they want me to spend 3300.00 to replace the cluster and have my drl's activated with them, when it has already been done to activate the warranty and have all the issues taken care of. How is this fair customer service and prctice???
