I have had studded winter tyres on my car for the last 6 months (Good Year 225/55/16) and have just put on my summer tires (Dunlop RF 225/50/17 - with about 500 miles on them). There is a quite noticable increase in the road noice, which is not what I would have expected. Normally the change from studded winter tires to summer tires decreases road-noice considerably... I have seen on this board that others have had their Dunlop RFT tires exchanged by BMW, but judging from the signatures it seems to be mostly for 18" tires. Have anyone had their Dunlop 17" RFT's changed due to this annoying road noice?

Hi Oreo
Ive had similar problem with my brandnew E61 535dAt. Style 122 with 245 45 17 RFT and the noice and comfort is horrible. Just ahving a discussion with my dealer. A Mkitted 525 touding with sports suspension and 18" is more comfortable than this. Horrible. Havce you tlaked to your dealer?

I am due for my 1 year service in a couple of weeks and I plan to take it up with them then. Normally I long to get rid of the winter-tires in the spring, but these Dunlop RFT's with their harsh ride, annoying noice and tramlining makes me want to put the winter tires back on... Let me know if you have any luck with your dealer!

Hi,
I'm also from Sweden, southern part, and I don't use studded winter tires . Recently I changed from winter tires to summer. (225/??-17 Good Year RFT Winter Ultra Grip -> 245/??-17 Bridgestone Potenza RFT. Sorry; not sure about the exact names of the tires) And the car is much more quiet than with the winter tires. I don't know what summer tires you have, but the Bridgestones seems pretty good.

Hi guys
I'm also from Sweden / Denmark, and do also drive 245/45-17 Bridgestone Potenza RFT, and they are pretty noice too. :'( :'( :'( specially in the speedrange 60 km/t -> 120 km/t.
I've heard that some guys in the USA have got there tires changed, for free, because of road noice.
In this winter 2004/2005 I've had RFT tires 225/??-R17 (style 116), and they didn't make as much sound as my summertires...
Great car Asken
