I had it ihappen to me, it turns out that a wire came off off the rear windshhield and had to be reconnected by the deasler. Since then great range.
Definately happened to me.
Got tints installed all round and range drops drastically to only a few feet. It's the metal based particles in the tint. Same thing happened to my friend's car which got the tints at the same time. Does anyone know if there is anyway we can extend the aerial before it gets to the rear screen to more exposed parts of the car?

Defenately amplifier, E61 has bad sealing to keep amp out of moisture/water.... my tints had nothing to do with this problem.
Once I had hatch open in very hard rain... all the water collects to the place where this antenna amplifier is located... I don't know how this is with E60.

There is now a GB Measure Number 6031832-01 "E60 radio remote control key, inadequate distance" (release date (23/11/06)

Complaint

It is no longer possible to lock/unlock the vehicle using the radio remote control key. The range may be reduced depending on the location, occasionally down to significantly less than 3 metres.

Cause

Defective components in the aerial amplifier/diversity caused by electrostatic discharge.

Measure

Modified components in the aerial amplifier/diversity.
The modified parts have been introduced into production since 26.10.2006.

Service measure:

Perform diagnostics and eliminate other causes (e.g. radio remote control key).
At the recommendation prompted by the diagnostics, replace the aerial amplifier with the modified verion.

Parts situation:

The modified aerial amplifier is identifiable from the information on the parts label as follows:
- Modification index "A1 2" (all versions except national variant 807 Japan)
- Modification index "A1 7" (national variant 807 Japan)
