I prefer the handling of the 550i over the E63, but the speed and torque of the E63 is sooooo enchanting that in spite of it's shortcomings I would still choose the E63 over the 550i. ![Innocent](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/innocent.gif)
I'm telling you, the Alpina B5 would be my ideal car!!!! It's got the best of BMW and MB all rolled into one.![Wub](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/wub.gif)

I think cars like the E63 will be a dying breed in the future, with all the new Cafe standards.
Yes the E60 has better handling, but lets be realistic we are not talking about a Lotus Exige. If you are worried about handling, get a smaller car, for example the M3 sedan.

MB vs BMW
You guys forgot calculating sexiness factor into formula.
BMW is sooooo much sexier than MB.
Conclusion:
1. If you are single, then get BMW : Sporty+luxury+sexy------>successful young professional
2. If you are married and OLD, then get MB : luxury------->professional who is ready to be retired

Not mine.
The x63 AMG models are some of the best MB's ever. They are not for old people.
Old people drive Lexus.

I do like the handling of the 5 series, but I've never driven the MB e63. Much of my driving is quick lane switching, and minor curves, the type that you can comfortable take at 70 mph in a regular car (freeway curves). I want the most pickup speed between 70-130 mph. Anything below that is fair game. In these aspects, I think the e63 is better than the 550i . . . and I'm tired of biker riders passing me up after 100 mph . . . just kidding.

For the type of driving you do and your desire for speed, I think the E63 fits the bill.
My main gripes with AMG cars are price and the sole choice of an automatic. Price looks to be a non-issue as well as the the tranny, so AMG it is.
Though, you should look around for M5s in your price range. Oh and you could get a low mileage 2006 Maserati Quattroporte in the $60Ks.

As far as perception of old vs. young cars, well I don't buy it either way. The 5 series is actually thought of by many as an older person's car, but you can find plenty of young people driving e60s. The same can be said of MBs.
Though if you're into the forums, car meets, track days and whatever else, BMW in general, is definitely more of the enthusiasts' car.
