Get E63. I never drove one, but I got to sit in the passenger sit once. Wow.
E63 has that mean aggressive beast wearing a hugo boss suit look.
Really I don't think there is any comparison here unless you are talking M5 to E63.

watch out for those 550 guys, they are gonna come swinging

M cars = AMG cars as far as the prestige factor goes. I don't see either one having more than the other...
OK Rudy, a little brain teaser:
M = AMG and M5 > 550 therefore AMG > 550i

BTW, I gather the 2 facts from this board and draw the conclusion.

I wouldn't go for E63 simply because i'm a BMW fan, however E63 is a great car. It is faster and more powerful than 550 however I think 550 has a better handling. I would choose the one that looks better to your eye

Didn't know I would start a some in-fight here. Maybe I should ask the MB forum what they think.

I do like the handling of the 5 series, but I've never driven the MB e63. Much of my driving is quick lane switching, and minor curves, the type that you can comfortable take at 70 mph in a regular car (freeway curves). I want the most pickup speed between 70-130 mph. Anything below that is fair game. In these aspects, I think the e63 is better than the 550i . . . and I'm tired of biker riders passing me up after 100 mph . . . just kidding.

The reason I didn't bring in the M5 is that a used 2007 M5 is upwards of 75K+. I can get into an 07 e63 for about 68K right now with less than 4K miles (good title and no wrecks) which is in line with an 08 550i. I'm trying to get the most for my money.

Is there a huge insurance preminum gap between a 550i and a e63? In all honesty, if the e63 is not worth the $30K ish out of pocket addition, I'll loom around until the next iteration of the M5.

VT seems to like his e63 (hope he's not an mole from M.

If I do pull the trigger, everyone's going shove me into the incenarator. so I won't tell you out of fear.

We won't bash you. We accepted VT even for his shortcoming and short sightedness for choosing a Benz. We're family and we love each other even if that person is retarted. LOL! J/K

Sounds like you're a good candidate for the E63 then. Get it!

Except that I was talking about the prestige factor when I said M = AMG so your logic is flawed.

I never said M-B = BMW what I did infer earlier was that M-B < BMW so you can't draw a linear conclusion that AMG > 550i unless you're only talking about the prestige factor...

Similar logic to a ham sandwich being better than complete happiness.

Nothing is better than complete happiness. Right?
A ham sandwich is better than nothing. Therefore a ham sandwich is better than complete happiness!

I'll echo the fact that if raw performance (in a sedan) is your main consideration, the E63 is hard to beat. For raw performance period, look no further than the Z06. I looked at an E63 compared to the 550i. I was disapointed how similar looking it was to an E550 (which I drove and dis-liked). I don't want the stealth factor. I want folks to realize I bought something special. The M5 stands out as does the 550i. But I mainly chose the 550i for its handling and overall styling and ergonomics that I prefered over the Benz.
