I thought you were doing it in reverse -- disabling the airbag now and enabling them later. Now I understand what you meant...

After reading this thread, and the thread referenced by Rudy, I would really like to have the side airbags activated in my car -- I have 12 and 10 year-old boys.

If I understand the discussion correctly, it sounds like the bags are there (even though I did not order them as an option), its just that I need to pay to have them activated. Is that correct?

If so, does anyone know the cost to have them activated at this point? This option seems to cost about $400 if ordered as an option. Is that the price to activate?

I'm quite certain that if you tear open your rear door you will find no side airbag unless you ordered it. I could be wrong; if that's the case, how long does the 500hp activation take?

No. They are only there if you ordered them.

Not in alle mercedes benz are rear airbags standard.
But its much more safety at the rear with the extra airbags. Why did they else side airbags at the front?

The side head protection system is standard on the E60. I opted to leave the rear airbags out because I have three small children riding in the back.

The side airbag in the IMO should be optional.

You still have the one at the top.
