The weirdest thing happened to me this week. I was gone for a week on business in Europe and my car was parked in the garage. When I came home and took it on my first drive everyting seemed fine.

Driving for two blocks I notice the little warning triangle in my display. I had heard no warning-chime or anything. I am wondering what the warning light is for?
I check status messages in iDrive and find out that my radiator fluid is low. Is says further that I need to fill up or else engine damage can occur. Now that has me worried.
I pull into the next gas station. Take out the owners manual to figure out what to do. It says in there that you should refill with the appropriate radiator fluid that you can get at your BMW center, but it doesn't tell me what type. It also says to mix with water.

In any case. I check the level and it is below MIN. I refill with water. Not much goes in, but still.

Now I am wondering what caused the the level to be below MIN. Do I have a leak somewhere? I have not noticed any leakages spots in my garage.
Anybody else have any experience with this?
I haven't called my dealer, yet, but I might do that and have them check things out.

I've had the same thing happened to me about a week ago. Warning lights came on and asking for some coolant water. When i checked the water level, it was at its lowest point. So i bought an already mixed 50/50 Prestone Antifreeze water coolant and top it off. Haven't rechecked the water level since , so i'm still not sure whether there's a leak or not.

Had the same thing happen to me recently. I've never opened the hood since I've had the car. The level was low so I added a couple cups of distilled water and everything has been fine since. Called the service department just in case and was told that it was normal; Probably just evaporation. Not sure how there would be evaporation if it is a closed system.

At any rate, I don't see any leakage anywhere and no more low level warnings so I think I'm OK.

Just got that error when it became cold - ironically 1 day after I received it back from the dealer.

I got the same message two or three weeks ago. The level was far beyond the minimum mark. I called my dealer and he said that it was not a problem, I just needed to add some water. According to him, a mix 70% coolant liquid 30% water is still fine.

I was quite surprise thus I preferred to go to the garage where they filled up the tank with coolant liquid for free.

I had that today... topped it off at the dealer.. he said he did that for 20 odd E60s this week. Happens in the cold... however last winter was really really bad and I didn't have any issues at all... mmm
