+1 on heated seats; plus heated stearing wheel............
My wife's X3 has heated steering wheel. I am amazd the e60 doesn't come standard with that option. I have four heated seats, and no heated steering wheel. The steering wheel is a can't live w/out once you experience it.

I'd say start the car, turn the seats on, go inside, lock up, walk out, drive gently, and when its hot you got heat.

Mine is just the opposite, cold weather pkg = heated wheel on the 550i, but only heated seats on the X3. I do like the heated steering wheel but it actually gets too hot too fast.
On topic, I have no issues with either heating up in the morning. I do make sure the center vent is set all the way to hot and turn on the heated seats in the morning.

I would suspect a diesel would take longer to heat up in the mornings.

When I set my 2007 525xi to Auto, I get too much cold air blowing at the windshield. I find it is best to turn the whole system off, use the heated seats and wheel until the cars really warms up, but that takes almost 20 minutes. Very disapointed in the operation of the heating system when the car is cold.

Big diesel engine got hard time to warm up.

As heater will not heat up until engine is warm, I switch it off for the first few miles and then switch it on again (I use the RPM rev max level as the 'indicator' to start the heater)...with aircon on and recirculation activated too.

Aircon will dry up the air and make heater more efficient. Yet be gentle on throttle while engine is cold. Trying to warm up engine by brutalizing it will only bring you trouble ultimately.

Definitely heated seat is a plus in winter! I guess this is why the option exist....and as mention in previous messages, warmed up steering wheel is royal... So if you do not have it..can only blame yourself on option choice. How much of use can low profile large wheels be in such weather....

Looking good or beeing comfortable...the option choice.
