I read on another board that if you push and hold the odometer reset button for 10-12 seconds, you will get a bunch of info about your car, including the software version. I tried it and I got a bunch of info. Does anyone know what info to look for specific (ex. software version)?

There has been much speculation as to the precise meaning of the information displayed using that method. I've not seen anything more concrete than that.

I think the general consensus of the "experts" is that you cannot tell what version of software your car has without hooking the car up to the BMW DIS system at the dealer.

I've done both the iDrive knob and the trip odometer methods to access the hidden menu's. I've written everything down, but can't figure out what any of it means (except the basics, like production date, etc).

My service tech at United BMW said that it's easier if I just let him hook it up to their computer, and the results will be in English rather than German.

Unless you speak German, there isn't that much there.
