Progman is the term BMW uses now to designate the software control system for the cars. The old term was CIP, if that helps. As the vehicles evolve, new features are added, new problems are discovered and new Progman versions come about. Progman 25 seems to be debuting with the LCI model of the E60, and so far, seems to have added new graphics and capabilities to the NAV screen (as an example). BMW Centers have to install the new Progman versions, and unless you're either willing to pay for a change, or have a symptom which needs correction, you won't normally get a Progman revision. I think all this is correct, but others may disagree.
Correct

you can get a daily/monthly/yearly subscription at BMWTis.com and do your own online diagnosis/coding. All you need is:
1. connection cable (less than $100)
2. a good power supply (ignition has to be in position 2 while programming and maintain more than 12.6V) (about $100)
3. Full tank of gas (or you can kiss your fuel pump good by)
4. Clear all faults before programming
5. Don't route any cables through windows (don't ask how I know!!!)
6. Make sure you're not loosing you internet connection while programming takes place

I bet you there will be no happy dealer when it hears that you're programming the e60 yourself.

Where do we buy all this including software? Part number?
BMW central does not sell software for your own computer, but you have to buy the whole thing which cost at least 5 stacks.

Verrrrrry interesting. Can't do it because I haven't got a garage or even a carport, but very interesting nonetheless. Thanks for posting.

BTW - I wonder how the cable routing issue is going to be solved once comfort closing becomes available on the E60 (and therefore presumably "tested" at some points)?

BMWTis had a PDF which explains a lot of stuff in 29 pages, but makes the whole process seem a little daunting and expensive. PDF attached.

My 545i is in today for Progman 25 update to correct the CD changer issue. I was told the vehicle will be complete tomorrow, and will post here when I get it back, to verify. I'm in the US just outside of Chicago, and am keeping my fingers crossed that the service department hasn't screwed up (again) and reprogrammed with an older version, which, of course I know will not correct the problem.

Now dealer says that previous software (not 25) version fixes CD issue. This can't be true. As I suspected the dealer did not install 25 yesterday but updated to the latest version prior, 24.? issued in December he said.
