Since I've had me 530d i've had a problem starting the car for time to time, I turn the key and its just dead. The first time it happened I just put it down to another fault, but a couple of days later I was parked outside work and it just wouldn't start. I call BMW Assist, they sent out a technician, he turns the key once, dead, "I'll have to have the car recovered to the local dealer".

Three days later I get the car back, the fault, they said was a gearbox inhibitor switch, which they replace, all fine until Boxing day morning, dead, I called BMW Assist this moring, they can't do anything until Wednesday when the dealers open, I now have yet another loan car, number four in five months, and who said BMWs were reliable.

Has anyone else had a similar problem, if so what did BMW say was the problem.

Cheers

Gavin

Not exactly, but I was starting to think my car's battery may be dieing. It seems a little slow to turn over when I first start it now that its winter. It has not let me down yet though.

My 545 would not start the other day after sitting outside for 2 days in the cold and snow that hit the greater Cincy area last week. Very odd, didn't act like a dead battery. Car seemed to start but just wouldn't "catch". Waited a couple of days until it was a little warmer and it started right up. No clue.

No grief on the car being outside please. A victim of simple math: One Z4 + One 545 + One Toureg - Two Car Garage + Wife having to go to work in the moring while I was on vacation = 545 sat outside!

I've never heard that before, so it seems to be related to the remap...

Today I've heard from BMW that the problem is down to a faulty Immobiliser controller, part has been order from Germany.

Hopefully this may be the end of this problem
