Just picked up my 05 545i (December build) today. Could've taken it 12/21 but was away on vacation

WOOHOO! Note: Bluetooth, body colored inserts, extra wood trim on the front and rear console included!

I've been told not to "baby" the car.

The following advice has been given to me

1) Nailing the gas at a stoplight up to 60mph is OK but keep it under 4500 rpm

2) Use steptronic Manual mode and switch gears when approaching 4500 rpm

3) Of course take it easy until the 1200 mile mark

What do you folks think?

The #3 w/ the 1200 mile thing is BS. They are mistaken it w/ the M car engine.
It doesn't really apply to the valvetronic engine.

Agree w/ evrything else.

cheers,

Sounds good. Vary the speed for all 1200 miles if you want to avoid one that uses oil. I would not use cruise control nor a steady foot. Drive the other drivers nuts. They deserve it.

Congrats on the new car. I took it easy for the first 1200 and differed my driving style a lot.

I got 4.75 APR for 60 months (probably could've done better) thru Chase and also KBB value on my trade! (Maco + training inclusive if it's even charged in the NYC metro area)

Thanks for the heads up JDN!

As far as a steady foot does city bumper to bumper traffic cause harm?

Varying speed? You mean on the highway bring it up to 90mph, coast back down to 70mph and back up to 85mph then glide to 65 mph?

The other night i had a maroon Ford Expedition tailgating me at 80+ mph on the NYS Thruway, What a schmuck! No he wasn't an unmarked police SUV. :bashwall:

Funny... I've been told that by the sales guy too... but I dont believe someone who tells me that the 6 disc CD changer is where the one slot is under the AC controls and someone who doesnt know what Blue Tooth is and of course dont know that its available for the 05 nor where it is in the iDrive menu.

I'll baby my car a while longer...
