I have a problem with my 635d and since it's the same engine as in the 535d I post it here.

When driving for several minutes at high speeds (>180km/h) the power of the engine is cut down and the engine does not rev above 3000-3300rpm (depending on the gear) anymore. It feels like the turbo's are not working anymore. When this first happened it was intermittent. After driving normally again for a few minutes the power came back but disappeared again after a high speed run.

When my dealer checked the car they found a fault in one of the air temperature sensors and replaced it. Last weekend I got to drive in Germany again and after afew minutes on an unrestricted Autobahn the problem resurfaced and is now permanent. It's like driving a 1.6L non turbo engine, you can hardly overtake a car anymore!

There are no check engine lights, the engine sounds normal and there is no excessive smoke. It also only seems to manifest itself when driving at high speeds. After the dealer replaced the sensor I drove around in the Netherlands for 2 weeks without any problem although I didn't drive very fast but I did use the power when accelerating.

Does anyone have a suggestion where the cause of the problem might lie? My dealer needs all the help they can get. It's the same dealer that originally told me the HUD could not be adjusted....

That sounds like a fuel related problem . . . could be supply lines, or pumps, or electronics controlling same. Diesels behave very differently than gasoline powered cars in that regard.

I suspect this BMW dealer SAs require additional training since you wrote this shop was not aware that HUD screen position can be adjusted. If they are the only BMW service available in your area you may need to do the necessary research and provide the instruction in small words but with pictures and large print !

very likely: Your diesel particulate filter is blocked and therefore the engine is running in an emergency mode...
