Default Power Knee Bolsters

Hey guys, I've search high & low and can't find anything on this topic. Before buying my E60 the wife and I test drove a dozen or so pre-owned BMW's (5, 7 and X series) with the 20 way adjustable comfort seats; all of them had issues with the power knee extenders. Most didn't work at all. Well my 550 has the same problem. I hear the motor working but the bolster doesn't move? It's gotta be a common problem, but what's the solution?

I have had one drivers and two passenger seat issues. Repaired under warranty. I think theres a gear in there that's the weak sauce.

Both of mine were repaired under warranty...I'm not sure what the problem was. hope you have a warranty. Since then, I am careful to retract them when not rolling. I dont really know if this will help but its the only thing I can do to hope to avoid them breaking again.

Good luck sir.

If you are mechanically inclined, you can fix it yourself. Here is a DIY that I made when I fixed mine.
