FIAT has a solution.

Are you suggesting that "My FIAT" and its near homophonous are one and the same? How did we miss this so far?

I know this is an old thread but having test driven a 535d sport tihs week I also found it very hard to get the back to grip. Currently have a 530d SE with DD, 18" rims and 50k miles.

Conditions were dry but kind of greasy, typical winter months weather, what I was amazed at was even at very slow speeds on roundabouts how easy it was to break the back end out compared to my car. Maybe I'm just found the limits of my own car but the 535D certainly seemed to want to break away at the slightest throttle

then I went into some roadworks at 30mph, had some boy racer 2 feet from bumper, it was highly satisfying going from 30-80 leaving a few hundred feet gap behind me in the process, lovely engine

Thats the problem moving from Quattro 4wd to rear wheel drive with lousy UK weather - you are putting twice the power, and probably 3-4 times the torque, through each wheel compared to a 3.0 Quattro.
I went from 2.8 Quattro to 530d and definitely the overtaking performance is much reduced in tricky conditions due to the little orange light (as oft documented, the run flats are even worse in cold weather)

Other compensations though, particularly in the dry

I have a 535d SE and it does have a tendency to use it's traction control more than other cars.
It does have enough torque to reposition the Earth in the solar system though, I think this might be the reason.

The fact that the engine is just so quiet lulls you into thinking that there is less happening than there really is.
I used to have an MX5 and it felt like you were going at 100mph out of a roundabout even when you were only doing 30mph.

Sometimes wish the 535 wasnt so quiet and had a bit more growl. On the other hand there are hardly any other cars on the road that are faster in the real world, so I think I will put up with having to be light on the throttle until the thing is straightened up.
