Fred,

I believe the interior changes happened from November 04 production (I'm sure someone else will correct this if I'm wrong). The finish on the advanced climate control dials is now ruthenium like the I-drive controller and gear shift selector. The original finish was a fairly flat silver paint which looked like BMW had forgotten to clear coat.

I believe that some of the interior plastic surfaces are now painted in what BMW calls soft touch paint in an effort to improve the colour uniformity of the interior plastics. I haven't been in a newer model car lately to see which parts have been covered in this paint. I think it gives a sort of shiny matte effect. IMHO they need to spray this stuff across most of the interior surfaces to give a uniform colour finish.

I see, thanks.

The next one will have that leather clad dash anyway, but I would like to see it.

Thanks ISUK.

"Debadged sleeper" meaning when an unsuspecting E500 or G35 pulls up next to me at a redlight they may think i have a 525i or 530i, then i'll take'em down.

Impeccable taste meaning our E60's look alike (silver land sharks)

I went with Silver Grey the second time around after having owned a Titanium Grey. The Titanium Grey to my eye often times looked dull?and the Silver Grey seems to have a bit more depth and vibrance to it (to me).

But the real reason I went with the Silver Grey was because after having driven the two colors back to back (equipped identically) it was immediately apparent that the Silver Grey was quite a bit faster and handled better when pushed to the limit. I found this to be true when comparing all the colors to Silver Grey too?

Yes me too. I found the Titanium Grey a much heavier paint and thus slowed the car the same with the grey interior. BMW have acknowledged this weight problem and are now offering a Stainless finish (Like Marty's Delorean in back to the future)
Option 469 cost's $999. Only available on week 9 production not yet in brochure.

Cud you specify what this option is about? Is it applicable to any colour?

The rarest colour must be copper metallic which was available at launch but quickly discontinued. I have seen one on the road and thought it looked awful. No one on this board seems to have this colour and I don't recall ever seeing anyone having Amethyst either.

Mine is Amethyst exterior with Amethyst leather. I love it but it's not for everyone.

I previously had a black, then a grey BMW 3series. Now I wanted a 'color'. And blue green and reds I didn't like. At this moment carbon black might be my choice. (heard it turns blue in certain situations)

As fas as the interior goes, truffle brown seemed like an ideal match although I realize there are also a lot of mixed opinions about this color in particular. It's also a dual color trim instead of a monocolor (like black, beige or gray), so similar to auburn

truffle brown is not dual color like auburn. most plastic trims (and fthe parcel shelf and the floor) are truffle brown as well. With auburn all of these are black. Are you maybe confusing truffle with amethyst interior (which is real dual tone black/amethyst, and the amethyst looks a bit similar to truffle brown)

Jet black - Auburn

Wife wanted Titanium and I was going to get it until I saw my Jet black with Auburn interior and only the options I wanted. Originally wanted an M3 with the similar interior but wife said NOOO

Wife still points out the Titanium but I still stick by my decision, except would have got SMG.
I do agree that the silver grey and titanium show off the shape the best though.
