Alpine white - never had a white before and I thought it'd look good on the 5..and it does I've only seen one other alpine white 5er in Toronto.

Black interior - let's say I have some estoril blue leather lying around in my basement.... Or else I'd have gone auburn.

Silver Grey because this was the only feature I allowed my wife to choose :-)

I picked sapphire black as it gives the car real presence for want of a better phrase. Other people have remarked that makes the E60 look imposing and expensive which is fine by me because it was? .

The last time a black car looks great, in my opinion, is the day it's prepped by the dealer for delivery- and only then if it's a cloudy day.

My Ride: 525d, sapphire black metallic, leather dakota truffle brown, poplar wood trim, run flats on “138-style” rims, xenon headlights with headlight washers, nav pro, PDC, heated sportseats, sport suspension, advanced electronic airco, CD changer, rear airbags, bluetooth, lighting package, cup holders, debadged, alarm.

I finally made a decision on the color, a process which took me a couple of weeks as I couldn't make up my mind at all. In the end I picked Sapphire Black, simply because of the elimination process:
- orient blue: had it on my previous E39 and wanted something different although I still love the color (looks better on the E39 than on the E60 IMHO)
- olivine and amethyst: colors that are totally not appealing to me
- white: not a car I want to be seen in; white is simply *not done* over here in Europe on *any* car, let alone a nice looking BMW 5-series, that is unless you're a pimp (sorry for those guys owning one )
- grey (all greys, be it titanium silver, silver gray or titanium silver): I guess over 80% of the cars over here are grey (simply 'cos they're easier to maintain?) and I just wanted to have a bit of a differentiator; interestingly my wife wanted a silver bullet so I'll let her choose her own color on her 520d coming in the fall, but this is gonna be *my* car and since I'm the man in the house wearing the pants, I get to pick my own color
- green: was an option for a short while, as it's also a dark color which makes the car look so much better, but then decided against it (makes me believe the car is owned by a guy over 50 with died hair, no pun intended for people > 50 tho' )
- black: OK, it does need more cleaning, but the car looks so much better to me, plus not that many people I know in the area have the car in black, plus I never had one before in black (obviously I don't know what I got myself into...
The metallic color is also nicer than any non-metallic paint as it gives different shades when put in a different lighting environment.

As fas as the interior goes, truffle brown seemed like an ideal match although I realize there are also a lot of mixed opinions about this color in particular. It's also a dual color trim instead of a monocolor (like black, beige or gray), so similar to auburn (but that's slightly over if you ask me: I still need to have the car look more business-like than sheer driving pleasure as I need to take customers once in a while).

Now I can't wait to get it delivered...

I picked Mystic Blue w/grey int. for my 545i, althought I like Black and the various silvers and Greys, it seems everyone is picking those colors and wanted to be a little different.

My last Bimmer was a '97 528i Canyon red/tan which was rare in my area (NJ).

How did I choose my colour

1) Silver is too common
2) Green......NO. Just NO
3) Grey - whatever you call it, it's still GREY, and a car must be more exciting than grey
4) Red - can't choose that, because the cops play snooker
5) White - is for van drivers, not a BMW

That leaves blue and black. I prefer dark colours, so Orient Blue was my choice. But you can't get that with the sport model. Down to Black, Mystic, or Carbon. I chose Carbon Black, as my previous car was metallic black. Would have been just as happy with Mystic, but Carbon Black just feels a bit special. Expecially as when I took delivery it was a rare colour for an E60. Perhaps becoming common now, but still not seen another sport on the road yet.

Silver gray because I want to be like everyone else.
