Ok...may be this is by design, but I'm not sure. So here is the question for the experts..
I was cleaning the interior and accidentally pressed on the radio knob (volume control button and also mute button) below the ac control unit, and the radio music and idrive came on. I was also able to switch between CD/Changer/FM with the idrive, just like when I was driving it. Hit the button again, and everything went off. Checked windows switches and everything else is dead, all this happening while the car key is NOT in the ignition or any where near the car. I was in the garage and car has not been driven for the last 3 days.
Does anyone know if this is normal? Can someone try to duplicate on their car? Thanks in advance!

This is all normal....at least I have noticed at one point in time. I had an 04 525i and it did the same exact thing. However, now that I have an 04 545i, it doesn't do it. I have no idea why it did it with the 525 and not the 545. And no, I didn't have logic7 in either car.

Tried this with my car but it wouldn't do as you mentioned. Car manual says if single CD slot system exists the radio system will remain active for 20mins after key is removed/car shut off.... I have 6CD changer system with CD slot above the navi DVD slot and it didn't work...

With NAV you can't start the stereo without the key/fob.

Thats normal. Cars without NAV you can listen to the radio for ~20 mins without the key. It is a built in feature since the 90s on all BMWs + MINIs. It will shut off after 20 mins or when the battery becomes low.
