I finally figured out the alarm was indeed the hour chime.

I've been trying to quantify the PDC sensitivity issue. If I approach the car with PDC engaged, it seems to pick up an obstruction. I am not certain if it truly is my being sensitive to things going wrong or something truly being amiss.

There is definately something wrong, in my opinion it's the software that is stalling, comparable to entering an address in your GPS, if you rotate the controller it sometimes responds immediately and sometimes there are really big delays, IMO this is the same thing as with the PDC. As you might have read, I got rid of my E60 two weeks ago for several issues, one of them was this as well (I once hit a wall and another time hit another car while parking and relying on the PDC sensors), and just in case you're wondering, I always parked the car very carefuly, in fact I had PDC on my previous 3 Series as well and never had any issue (owned it for 3 years).

I also had a small accident due to PDC failure. Otherwise another couple of times when PDC hesitated hanging... My 3series car PDC much more reliable.
