Hello Forum Members,

Today as I was driving on the freeway, a weird object fell from the sky and obliterated my passenger side mirror. My guess it was a bird.

As I was shopping for a replacement, there were about 16 options to choose from. My question is, how do I know what type of mirror to get and whether I should claim this under my auto insurance? I am pretty sure the total amount would be well over $500 due to paint and labor.

*Note* I looked all over for a part number on the door sticker but it gave no mirror description. Any ideas?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly.

Do you need just a new housing or a new housing and mirror?

The mirror itself seems to be fine. It looks like I just need the outer housing.

Thank you.

Year of car? Go to the junkyard to see if they have any titanium silver mirrors? Are the electronics all working? Is the mirror adjusting/folding/moving?

Number 1 should be what you need. You can use that website to find the part number for anything on our cars.

ETNav, thank you so much for that link.

Should I go ahead and replace the black arm piece where it folds? I noticed some ugly scratches around that area.

From what I can see on the site you would have to get the replacement housing that will be about $600, IF I'm correct. Not worth it for a few scratches. Heres the link for the entire parts for vehicle trim on the front doors and you can decide for yourself if I'm picking the right part.
