I had the "Pass Restraint Fault" last year which reulted in the battery safety cable being replaced to the tune of $470. Even under CPO warranty and calls and e-mails to BMW Canada from both myself and my dealer, the repairs were not covered under CPO. I let it be known to BMW Canada that I was less than impressed that they would not stand behind their own integral safety devices installed in our cars. If they don't have faith in the factory installed safety devices, should we?

This was emailed to me by the SA. So aren't the supposed to clear the fault to see if it's a glitch? I asked them to delete and they said they couldn't because of "legal reasons." But if it were the sensors, wouldn't they trigger the fault again?

In a very wtf manner, this popped out of nowhere for me today.

Going to see if I can use INPA and clear it tomorrow.

Omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive had this "passenger restraint system and airbag malfunction" forever!
Everytime I start the car error msg, error msg..
I never knew this was a recall!!
I called my dealer a long time ago and they said "maybe your vehicle was in an accident" and they wanted to charge me for a diagnosis. So I procrastinated, because afterall,
it is just a service light on my dash...
.. Now I read that it's a recall, I call this morning stating "hi, I have a recall on my e60, can I set up an appointment" and bang, they asked for the last 7 of my vin # and I'm booked this Wednesday 730am!!!! Apparently takes a day for service
But at least the problem is getting solved!!!! (hopefully *fingers crossed*)

Thanks guys

You mean to tell me I've paid to get this thing reset 3 times already, Service told me I needed to replace the sensors, and this TSB exists? WTH? Do you know if this is covered out of warranty? The warranty should be extended for this issue!!!

I hope I am not off topic here but I posted earlier that I would let you know my results... my SA basically stated I needed a software update and the error went away.. hmmmm kind of fishy but nontheless it was a free fix and no more annoying CHIME!

Curious...mine only happens INTERMITTENTLY when someone is actually in the passenger seat. Is it the sensor, recall issue, or battery dying?

Mine used to do it intermittently for about a month... but now it just does it all the time. For those of you that had this problem fixed without warranty, how much did it cost to fix?

Where is the sensor located?
