Here is the link for the TSB. Gotta love the "On customer complaint only" comment.

I had this problem when I first got my car, 2005 545i and when I ran it on inpa, the code was the positive cable on the battery, Battery Safety Terminal. I wrote a quick DIY, https://5series.net/forums/topic/125...7#entry1460237

Update: just got out BMW of ft lauderdale, great news for me, my car still has CPO warranty, the service advisor put down every little thing that was bothering me and they are taking care of it!! Got really lucky i guess, they even gave me a courtesy car! He said it was probably the seat mat..

My car is an 06'. I don't have sport nor comfort seats. However the dealer ran the codes on mine and it flagged 93C3 which is the passenger seat matt (ocupancy sensor OC3). Luckily I had it fixed while the car was still under warranty. Oh and my VIN was not under the recall.

Aside from that, I think the replacement matt is about $300. There's a TIS with instructions on how to install it if one wants to do a DIY.

My 545 was under warranty, 10 years in fact for the Passenger Resraint System. Had to jump through hoops to get it done though.

When I had mine done, the SA says it's 10 years from the original sale of the car, not from when the restraint system is fixed.

My car has this error; I took the car in to get this diagnosed at local BMW dealer. They called me back and told me that the seat mat sensor is not the problem (OC3 bulletin). IBS sensor (on the negative cable) is the problem and $550 to replace. I told them to go ahead with replacement of IBS and resetting the SRS light.

I know I can buy negative cable with IBS for around $200. However, I would have to pay for the diagnostic fee of $160 to get the car back, then $200 for the IBS, then I would have someone reset SRS. If, after going thru all that, the SRS issue is not resolved, then I can't hold BMW responsible for diagnosis or repair.

By paying BMW to do the repair, if the problem doesn't go away or reoccurs, I can hold them responsible for the misdiagnosis+repair.

Based on what I read and from this experience, there are 2 common causes for this issue - one is the mat sensor (OC3 bulletin) and the second is the IBS sensor. First one is free under recall/technical bulletin. Repair for the second one is on you. Note that the recall on the battery cable is NOT related to IBS.
