Passenger Airbag Off Light - What LB Limit?
#1
Hey,
I have a friend who is around 90 pounds (she is in her 20s), and when she gets into my E60 the "Passenger Airbag Off Light" remains lighted! No matter how she sits in the seat, most of the time the E60 tells me there's no passenger!
After a huge meal the light turns off for her... only to come back on a day later!
This girl is small, but not THAT small...
Can I complain to the dealer/BMW about this? Can they calibrate the weight setting? It is very serious, in case of an accident her airbag won't go off!
Any ideas?

Any idea if this is a software fix? Maybe they'll upgrade CIP version??

Nice Rudy! As I recall there were issues with early E60's (I see yours is an '04) and the sensor in the passenger seat. Don't remeber if it ever reached recall status but a number of folks reported similar a problem. I thought the weight limit was something like 50 lbs but I could be wrong on that. Take it to the dealer with you friend and show them. When the light is on, the airbag is off so no protection for the passenger. It needs to be corrected...

I'm thinking you have comfort seats. Had the same problem with my teenage daughter. Known problem, see "Safety Restraint Systems 72 02 06 / June-06 / ALL Airbag Warning Lamp for OC3 Seat Mat Fault (Supercedes Mar 06 w/new parts info)". Since I had also once seen the iDrive warning about passenger restraints inactive, rather than recode, BMW replaced my whole seat mat. Problem doesn't happen any more.

We have a 2004 E60, and had a problem with the sensor in the passengerseat back in 2004. The problem with our sensor/seat, was that it always believed that somebody was on the seat, so the seatbelt alarm went off all the time. Some sensor in the seat was changed And the problem was fixed.

I had the same issue in my car and it was addressed by my dealer after a while. First 2 times I took the car to them to resolve the issue they could not do anything, later they identified this to be a known issue that BMW was working on. It was finnaly fixed about a year ago.

My 520d LCI sometimes tells my bag (<20 pounds) to wear a seatbelt ;-)
