Strange... The compartment with the door is still listed in the parts catalogue for RHD LCI cars. Also, I found this image of a RHD LCI where the compartment is (just about) visible:

I'm sure BMW just like making life hard for themselves by randomly changing pieces of trim halfway through the cars lifecycle.

It seems UK spec models all have these and the US ones dont.
Same issue with spacesavers, apparantly most US sold E60's had spacesavers as standard and the UK ones dont, unless you opted for it when purchasing your car.

I've found pictures of both pre and post LCI LHD cars with the cubby... If they took it out for the US market then they'd have to have built a cubby-less dash specially for over there. Weird.
