For people who like their EPC diagrams, it's part number 31 on this page... Part number 2 below it is the old version:

This must have been deleted in LCI cars. Not on my 2008 535i.

Strange... The compartment with the door is still listed in the parts catalogue for RHD LCI cars. Also, I found this image of a RHD LCI where the compartment is (just about) visible:

And this one of a LHD LCI where it's not:

I'm sure BMW just like making life hard for themselves by randomly changing pieces of trim halfway through the cars lifecycle.

I don't have that cubby on my '07 530xi ... it'd be nice just for storing little things.

It seems UK spec models all have these and the US ones dont.

Same issue with spacesavers, apparantly most US sold E60's had spacesavers as standard and the UK ones dont, unless you opted for it when purchasing your car.

I've found pictures of both pre and post LCI LHD cars with the cubby... If they took it out for the US market then they'd have to have built a cubby-less dash specially for over there. Weird.

my guess would be that cubby/door was eliminated for crash safety....maybe for knee impact standards possibly. or just cost cutting.
