Default P1447 check engine code

Hey guys, I recently got this P1447 check engine code come up, it says "Diagnostic module tank leakage (DM-TL) pump current too high during switching solenoid test" what's causing this? Some people say it's my DM-TL pump tank? or could it be a faulty gas cap?

The car is a 2006 525i automatic with the N52 engine and it's got 140000km/86000 miles.

It very well could be the gas cap. Have you been in an accident lately? Did the code come on after you refilled? The cap is 10 years old so I wiould start with that and clear the code. If the code comes back then pump if faulty and needs to be replaced. Im looking at the message "current too high" could just be the pump. Troubleshoot and please get back to us and let us know.

I don't know about the gas cap behavior of the BMW, but I had a rental car once that didn't have the gas cap on right and it took more a couple days after I put it on right for the light to clear.

@seanjordan20 - I just bought the car used less than a year ago, it was in an light accident on the passenger side door.. 6k of damage so nothing too bad and I doubt it would have affected this The thing that leads me to believe that it's the gas cap because I clear the code and I go fuel up and boom it reappears, so it could be that. If it's the pump how much would that cost at BMW? Thanks

@twh - Even after tightening the gas cap and shutting down the car and restarting it, it doesn't erase the code, so I think the gas cap has leaks.

If it reappears when you fill up then replace the cap. But if its not the cap and you still get the light then just replace it yourself gives you something to do for a Saturday morning. It is easy to do. The Bosch part cost $76. This is also a how to for replacement. Read the article I think it explains exactly what your car is doing. Good hunting friend.
