Thanks - I really hope it works out for me too. Did you notice the wear patterns on the tires, or was it noise only?

By the way, to the above poster who asked, here is the link to the TSB (with thanks to RUDY for his earlier posting).

Heres a link to used tires i might buy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Acces...0243386494&

Are these the same tires on the TSB? It doesnt mention anything about runflat. Just curious if these are gonna get noisy on me in the future.

Yes, those are run flat tires. The DSST in the model name of the tire stands for "Dunlop Self Supporting Tire." I am sure they would not qualify for the service bulletin since there would be no way to prove how many miles are on the tires. The SB states that only tires with less than 20,000 miles qualify. My car came with new Dunlop run flats. I had them replaced for free at 17,000 miles. I have an appointment on Monday to replace those tires for free which now have 13,000 miles. They get pretty noisy after 12,000 miles.
If noisy tires are an issue for you I would pass on those tires.

So I am sitting here tired and bored with myself, looking through the posts, and I start reading this thread. I have seen a few of the long time members posting on how they got free tires, but never really though much about it until I started down this thread. When I downloaded the TSB, I got my flash light, went out into the garage, laid down o nthe floor, and looked at the inner part of the tire for the irregular wear that the TSB alludes to, sure enough, I have the scalloped edge on the left side of the rear tire. I made an appointment to get them replacded on Monday, but the dealer had no clue about the TSB. I faxed it over to him, and he vferified it. So, thankyou lawguy, for saving me from buying the new tires...

BMW Fremont in CA says they only honor one free replacement as a "courtesy" and wouldn't replace my second set even though the tires had the exact same defects (corroborated by a test drive from one of the technicians). They punted the issue to BMW corporate and said I would need to take the issue up w/ them. I ended up buying a set of Bridgestone non-RFTs and it's been the BEST thing I've done. After driving on RFTs for 3 years, it feels like a brand new car with no road noise and amazingly smooth ride.

You're welcome, although I am hardly the one to thank. I just kept an old thread and idea alive. I think it was actually Rudy that turned me onto the idea a year ago, and i just finally took care of it and reported on it.

I thought it was a great savings too - I am guessing $1200 at least? A great benefit from this great forum!

I have the Dunlop SP 01 RFT - 245 40 18 and all I can say after 16.000 km is - MOST TERRIBLE TIRES I?VE EVER HAD !!!!!! I will replace them after this season. I will go for the Goodyear or Pirelli.

I'm mean really at this point why doesn't BMW just cut ties with these damn RFT. I'm sure they signed some great contract at sometime. But won't it just be easier to buy themselves out of it. The headache and bad rep isn't worth it. You'd think Dunlop would want out also. The tire is a great concept and works on other cars with minimal issues but its like oil and water with BMW's. Enough already with this sick experiment.

Add this to the list of things you'll never hear out of BMW owner.......................

Wish I had my RFT's back.
