Just bought a 2010 -535i with 15k miles on the odometer.
What I would like to know is how to find out the last oil change.I've checked in the nav display and its telling me next oil change due in 14k miles, so to my way of thinking the last oil change was 1k miles ago?
Short of taking it to the dealer any ideas?
Thanks guys

Well, you could go by the dealer if you like and they can drop your key into a reader and tell you a lot about your servicing. This should only take a minute and at no cost. If you didn't buy it from a dealer this might be a good idea so you know if there is any warranty left or what you have. If your car is still under the warranty they will service it at no cost.

Concur with your analysis, except that the "miles to go" in iDrive does not count down at a steady rate matching the actual miles driven. It is based on how the car is driven. Short trips cause it to count down faster than actual miles driven, and conversely long drives cause it to slow down. Thus you may see the miles go up and down in 1,000 mile increments as you vary the way the car is driven. Your 2010 car is certainly still under the 4 yr/50,000 mile service plan, so you should know that BMW will change your oil either when the iDrive says it is due or after one year from the last change even if the miles have not counted down. So, it would be a good idea to find out when the oil was last changed by taking it to a dealer.

FIRST : Congratulations and welcome to the forum!
SECOND: Did you actually buy a very expensive used car without FIRST obtaining full and complete service records, warranty history, etc etc? Yea yea I know many people trust CARFAX etc - BUT, you're missing the boat by not getting these records (in advance!) before handing over the cash! You might be surprised by what data is available - Like BMW extended service or maintenance coverages that follow THE CAR - NOT the owner!

Once again - welcome and enjoy your new-to-you BMW.

NOW, get thee to a BMW dealer and build a working relationship so you take advantage of all the goodies that you may not know you have

Thanks guys for the responses.
Yeah I had all records before I bought it from a reputable dealer in Houston . 15k miles@40k$, with the extras was a deal, sport pkg etc.I'll just go to the lovcal BMW dealer and get them to pull up the records from the key-I did the same with my last car a 328i.
I'd forgotten about the oil change mileage being based on algorithms and not actual mileage.
Thanks for your help guys!
