They didn't fill up for me either until I called their attention to the service bulletin. I also reminded them that they could get one day off the loaner expense (14 days total) according to the bulletin. The bulletin suggested a loaner and top up the tank as a good will gesture for the inconvenience to customers caused by the emissiion recall.

Go back with an empty tank, bulletin in hand. If it doesn't work, threaten to call BMW NA. If that doesn't work, call BMW NA. Try Munich next. If that still doesn't work, call Gerhard Schr?der.

I went? though about a quart every 7500 - 10,000 on my E39.? Iwas assured by numerous sources that it was normal (or at least acceptble).? There was never any sign of a leak (no stains on the driveway) and no smoking during operation to indicatea ring problem.? Just burned alot of oil.

My '99 540 went 102,000 miles without needing a single quart between oil changes so that was normal for me.
