Oil change every 7,000 miles overkill?

I am not sure where do you get that the new engines consume oil. I am assuming you are referring to the N52 series engines. Mine after 24,000miles doesnt consume any oil at all. If they had to put 4 litres of oil in then there is definitely something wrong with your engine.

There is no need to be defensive. At least 50% of the people in the posts you refence claim no oil consumption and the rest had to top up a quart or less in intervals of 15,000 miles or so. 15,000 miles represent 9 months to a year.
All I said was that in 8 months or so having cosumed 4 out of 6.5 liters of oil is not normal. If you think its normal, then I am perfectly fine with it. After all its your engine.

Plus most of the people that put a quart in their engine only to bring it back to minimum level or they put a quart in once they saw the oil in their engine is not at maximum, it just so happen that I didn't bother to fill up when I see the engine lose some oil, I waited for the warning light to come up.
There are alot of possiblity, but the point is oil consumption in engine is not something new that surprise "old" member like me and please use the search function before posting.

Though don't forget that engine oil characteristics have changed and improved over recent years.
After all VHS has been superseded by DVD but some insist on still using their stock of cassettes.

but my engine is the old 1 so it don`t burn oil. had it for over 2 years and have never top it up
