Oil—BMW, Mobil 1 or Castrol…does it matter?

I would use Castrol which you can buy at Walmart for about $4/quart. That way you are using the same oil as the BMW oil according to the fellows in the Lone Star BMWCCA. Do one filter change in between and change oil by the OBC record.
Agreed.. it's a $50K plus car.... better not risk......................

He told me the brand of oil.. They gave me an extra bottle to top the car up after 3 or 4000 miles.. I'll check wich shell oil it is.

I can?t imagine switching brands will have any impact as long as you stick to a quality brand. Here is another good article:

[/quote]So the test was conducted by Ford's "experts". This is why Ford engines are sooo "good"? THey recommend using the oil for 50.000 miles..
By the way.. I know a nice lady that bought a car (a Renault or something).. and she had no ideea you have to go to the service from time to time.. She HAD to go at almost 100.000 km because the car had a "bad noise" at the engine..
Anyway.. the guys from the service took advantage of her appearence and changed her oil for the first time.. after 100.000 km..
THis is why women should never touch a car.
