I just had my transmission replaced under dealer warranty and the used unit they put in is doing the 5th gear surge exactly as described above. They called today to say it is getting yet another transmission put in it. I'm trying to get them to replace the mechatronics unit with the "updated" one but they say it up to the warranty company to decide. I'll honestly laugh if they change it again and it's still screwed up.

my 5th gear surges stopped ever since I added more coolant yeah very weird!! the coolant levels were low, maybe the engine was running too hot and messing up, sending invalid signals to the transmission to change gears. Who knows!

I need to inspect the MAF and if there are any vacuum leaks, otherwise as we speak all is ok. Hope that lasts!
