So it stands to reason that the LCI E60 has red turn signals as well (as stupid and illogical as that may be...)

I wouldn?t jump to conclusions; this was the test of one pre production car?s emergency blinker.

I'm pretty sure emergency blinkers would use the same ones as turn signals... and even for emergency blinkers Amber blinkers are MUCH more effective than Red... from a distance if you see a pair of flashing red lights you cant immediatly tell if it was someone just taping their breaks or if they're a pair of emergency signals... it'll take at least 3-4 flashes before you actually figure out the car is flashing emergency signal...
If at a distance you saw a pair of AMBER lights you know IMMEDIATLY that they're flahing emergency signal you will not confuse those for brake lights... and then you can react a lot sooner. Sometimes DOT laws just dont make sense... not allowing red reflectors on our rear bumpers but allowing red turn signals...

As already been pointed out, the BMW 550i is definately Carbonschwarz (in Germany, you can't even get Monaco Blue WITH the M-sports package). And the 535i is definately Monaco Blue, as TiefseeBlau (sugested by someone) looks a bit lighter.
For the interested, pictures of TiefseeBlau (Deep See Blue) can be found in my signature.
