I believe the original poster meant this:- US Sport model has ARS/DD Suspension.
- Non-US M Sport model has M Suspension.

Putting aside all the cosmetic differences, what do Non-US owners think of DD vs. M Sport Suspension in terms of ride and handling?
In my recent thread about DD, my suspicions were confirmed.

Hardly anyone has DD in the M Sport market since DD is not available with M Sport and M Sport is popular where available.

IMHO BMW has the most envied brand in all of auotodrom.
DRP
Thats debateable.

Personally, althou ive only had humble 3 series before, I like the brand image and quality of the BMW over common or garden other euro cars.

On the other hand, I know of plenty of petrol heads (in the UK) that wouldnt drive a BMW as they have a bad image. This is because in this country, many people think bmw drivers think they own the road, drive like a'holes, etc.

I had a french collegue that said he wouldnt get a BMW as in France they had a 'drug dealer' image.

So, it really depends on your point of view and geographical location!

Personally, in terms of pose factor, I would think a Merc / Aston Martin / Rolls comes above a beemer. However, I dont like mercs and the BMW is, at a level, attainable.

cheers

I hear what you're saying steve, but the comment about envied brand was meant more from a corporate/marketing standpoint. Harvard business school uses BMW as the subject of a case study. Its not that BMW is the best car to own or be seen in, its that "the ultimate driving machine" is a powerful slogan envied the world over by GM execs, Ford execs, Diamler-Chrysler execs etc....because their brands don't have much behind them. What is ford? Ford tough? I meant the branding of the company as opposed to the image of the car itself.

Thanks for the clarification Jet. That was my original question. But now from reading the replies it seems that BMW doesn't offer dynamic drive in markets where you can get M sport? Odd. Did BMW really develop a market specific suspension? Wierd.

Thanks for all the responses. The next time I'm in Canada I am going to see about a test drive in a 5 M sport.

No.

Dynamic Drive is not available WITH M Sport.

It IS avaiable on SE (non M Sport).

So then here is my final question:

Do they just add a hydraulic roll bar to the standard suspension when you select an SE w/DD? Or do they change the shocks/springs setting with DD? They may even soften them with DD because there is no concern over body roll. What I'm getting at here is that the 'standard' suspension on a 550i in the U.S. could concievably have stiffer shocks and springs than a U.S. 550i sport (on account of the DD). Sorry for getting tangled in all the minutia. I'm an attorney. It's an occupational hazard. But my interest stems from the fact that the last BMW I had exhibited a more no-nonsense ride at triple digit speeds. You feel the speed more in the 550i sport, and from what little I know, it seems to be because the suspension is softer than what I was used to.

Thanks for the info.
