Hello folks
I have had my 04 530i for just under a week. It is an amazing car! Good forum too. I was really hoping not to have to post for answers this soon but I hope this isnt a big problem.
Basically, I have very mild heat out of the front console vents. I've got the idrive settings to max and have redirected most of the flow to the console vents and away from the defrost and foot wells, but it is still pathetic. Not a nice problem to have in Ontario! I drove for about 40 mins to work this morning and it was still cool, the manual temp select knobs dont seem to have much of an effect either.
Coolant strength, thermostat?
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Cheers

- Check coolant temperature via smartphone app and see if its normal. (bluedriver, etc)
- If it is low, replace your thermostat.
- If its normal check the following:
- Check coolant level
- Place car on an incline and run the heat full blast and massage all of the hoses to get air out.
- Heater Valve operation.

Well here's the update....im thinking maybe my thermostat could be open because my coolant temp is 48 deg when driving at 60 mph for about 25 min with no stops, but when i stop and the car idles i get about 71 deg what do you think??
I have the same car and found this out after playing with iDrive... Go into the Climate settings and for the vent settings, go to the section where you can adjust the fan speed for the three zones... Head, middle, and feet areas... With the middle selected, push the iDrive control knob straight down. It will open a menu that will allow you to adjust the temp of the air. It may be all the way in the blue which would prevent really hot air.
Yeah that I also set onto all red bars on it so the system shouldn't be preventing any hot air at all..
it does get warm to where you're not freezing anymore but for the temp to be set on Max and its not putting out is a sign something isn't working right. Especially with the coolant temp being so low
