Red face

I got an email from BMW SA today, in direct answer to several questions I asked my dealer.

See below (NB: some answers may apply to SA market only):

Q:
Can Dynamic Drive be ordered with MSports Pack?

A:
No. Dynamic drive cannot be taken with Sports Package.

Q:
Can MSports pack be ordered with NON Run Flats?

A:
No. 18" wheels are standard for Sports Package, and are not available in non-runflat tyres.

Q:
Can you confirm if the SA MSports Pack wheels are mixed (8J 18inch 225 front and 8.5 J 18inch 245 rear). Overseas they have 245's all round. Is it possible to get the same here?

A:
I'm afraid even I cannot answer you on that. I'm waiting for Germany to confirm which wheels will be available on the 5 Series with M Sports Package in SA.

According to all information available to me at this point in time, the Sport Package wheels will be of the following spec: 8 J x 18 / tyres 245/40 R18 for both front and rear wheels, but like I said, I cannot confirm anything at the moment. The Sports Package bulletin however indicates differently. Hopefully I'll be able to give some indication on this issue by Monday 29 November.

Q:
When will HUD and Active cruise control be available in SA?

A:
Option SA610, Head-up Display is planned for March 2005. Please note that this date might move again.

Option SA541, Active Cruise Control is currently planned for the European markets for March 2005, but no confirmation as yet. Keep in mind that it will not be available with Sports Package.

Q:
Most importantly - When will the new R6 3.0l engine be available?

A:
If we're talking about the "NG6" engine (New Generation 6 Cylinder Valvetronic II engine) - it will be avail from March 2005 production.

If we're talking about the new 3.0liter Twin-turbo diesel engine that will be fitted to the 535d in Europe - we will not be getting that engine in our market at this point in time.

For me the main thing is that he confirmed what my dealer had already told me about the new engines (R6, I6, NG6 - seem to be a lot of codes for these ), i.e. from March 2005 production.

I saw another post about MSports pack and Active Cruise Control. I am also sure I saw a pic with ACC on a MSports pack. But it seems like I'll have to do without.

I will have to wait until next year to see if I can include HUD, without delaying my order.

Since I will only get my car in June, I am starting to wonder if it is worth waiting a couple extra months for any possible facelifts or minor cosmetic changes.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I am thinking of getting a 530i sometime in Febuary, but if the new engine will be in March 2005 models, I might as well wait. I just hope that the engine production of March 2005 will also apply to US build models.

If planned for the US market, I think it will be well worth the wait.

Due to motorplan, it was time to trade in my 525.

So I bought a 120i to keep me busy during my long wait. Way too small...

But good fun to drive
