Hey there forum, just signed up. No idea why it's taken so long to get on a Bimmer forum.

My 2007 530i is still in practically showroom condition but I noticed the headlights might be getting a bit or oxidation and wear and tear on them.

I know I can try a headlight restore product (unless you guys who know don't recommend it) but if I decided to just buy new OEM headlights I was wondering if the 2008-2009 E60 lights will fit just the same? The 08-09 removed that amber lens on the side so I slightly like the 08-09 more.

I'm not too familiar with modifying stuff like headlights, etc. I like to keep a nice clean OEM look so in case this matters for your answers, the car has the full OEM M Sport Package on it.

Here's some pics.

Thanks!

The headlight will physically fit but wiring is a whole different story ... then re-programming ... among other things...
At least if your car build date is late '06 you already have a newer light module.

BTW to the forum!

I observed a guy restoring them one day at a detail shop where they removed dents and made small paint repairs. The end product looked better than new and the cost he said was around $200.00 . I would say his process is for lights that are in sever condition. Basically, he sanded the clear coat off the covers with various grit sand papers I believe up to 1200 or so then applied several coats of high solid 2 K clear. I will do this too once mine get in a bad condition. If your lights aren't in too bad of shape the process attached in mbawazir's post will work well. I would change one thing though. Go to an auto paint store or NAPA and get 3M compound for clear coats. It works much better and use a wool pad for polishing with a buffer.

Once your done with restoring them, have them covered by the 3M protection film.

I had mine covered shortly after getting the car, and my lights still look nice and clear.

If the film ever gets pitted or discolored, (its not supposed to), I can just remove the film, wash the lights, and have them reapply new film.

I would suggest having a professional tint shop install it though. There are many compound curves on our headlights, and the film is pretty thick and needs to be heated and stretched to make it fit properly.

OK guys, bear with me, I'll get better at knowing the terms to help search the forums properly. Just a general question, did the brake lights change in any way from the 2007 to the 2008-2009 models too?

Or better yet, is there a resource you could point me to that clearly spells out the changes that were made from 07 to the 08-09 models?

I'll definitely try to restore them then. I don't mind buying new ones for the 08-09 style but there's no way I'm tearing the car apart for them.

Thanks again!

Yes. Tail lights are different too.

Again, the tails will fit your car, but you'll need cables etc. to get everything to work properly.

Google or search for "e60 LCI" That should show you the differences.

The most obvious changes: Headlights, taillights, lower front bumper lip, interior of front doors...

Yeah, I have it now. See I had no idea there was this whole LCI thing they did in 2007. I never would have know to search for LCI to begin with.

Thanks for your patience.

By the way, I did find this pretty thorough resource:

http://www.bmwdrives.com/bmw_cars/bmw-e60.php

This PDF spells it all out crystal clear, this is exactly what I was looking for:
