95k miles on my clutch and feels like new. Replacing the CDV is a must! Impossible to shift smoothly without this easy mod.

Just a quick head's up.
I believe the clutch is fall under maintenance warranty unless the clutch is defected.
So unless you can 100% prove that the clutch is defect which very unlikely you will
they won't cover even if you purchased extended warranty.
But couple of people mentioned above, it's not normal but "clutch" is very sensitive area
where dealership refuse to admit and blame on the drivers. But, if you get the maintenance warranty extension,
it's part of their routine maintenance items.

So you know if your clutch is not normal, it will be a big save to get this maintenance extension.
Don't confuse the clutch with warranty. It's maintenance item according to BMW NA!!
If your 4/50k warranty is about to expire, consider getting maintenance warranty extension.

Whats a CDV?
was mentioned earlier in the thread:
One thing you describe, however, sounds like a common problem with manual 5 series---- the slow, jerky grabbing of the clutch right at the engagement point. Found out thru this forum that a special "feature" called a Clutch Delay Valve is the likely culprit. The CDV slows the engagement, ie. overrides your controlling foot for a "smoother" engagement (NOT). Do some searches here and you'll find out more.
Good news is that a custom CDV valve is available from Zeckhausen Racing to replace the the BMW part, which magically improves the clutch engagement. You can read more details on their site, just dig down to the bottom of their BMW E60 section. I plan to get one, as this should be a low-cost solution to making this much more of an "ultimate driving machine".
Other threads have supported that this is a worthwhile mod.

On the 545, removing the CDV is not a simple procedure and involves bleeding the clutch fluid afterwards
