I noticed that if i have to brake hard when sitting at 70 MPH i get a vibration through the pedal but only under hard braking, there is no feedback through the steering wheel at all. This doesnt seem to happen at lower speeds, anyone have any experience of this? Is it just because the brakes are warm?

Hopefully i wont be reaching for my wallet again.

ABS pedal vibration? Under hard braking your pedal should "pulse" because of the ABS system doing it's job - it basically applies and releases the brakes hundreds of times a second to prevent the wheels from locking and making you skid and lose control. This is normal, different if you feel it in the steering wheel, that would mean your rotor are warped and will need to be replaced. As for the noise? There are dozens of threads here where owners describe their squeaking form the brakes (including me) and the frustration that results.

Thanks mate, I was hoping it was nothing. I am going to check the condition of the rotors and pads this weekend, they were replaced before i bought the car. I might strap a mate to the hood with a camcorder to get footage of it happening at 70 from the wheel arch .

Might want to give him a few pints of Guiness first though - then it's GAME ON!!! Give me a few pints and I am ready for anything!!

The ABS is a very pronounced vibration and usually only comes on in extreme braking or very slippery pavement.

You may want to look into getting brand new rotors for the front wheels. Plain Brembos are about $80 each, and the cross-drilled ones are about $175 each.
Rotors can only be machined a finite number of times, and if the prior owner was heavy on the brakes, they can warp due to heat over time.

This is an easy fix and can be done at any brake shop.

I would stick with BMW or Brembo pads. I usually buy my own parts, and take them into a very good local mechanic.
The BMW dealers in Atlanta seem to get no service supervision from BMWNA, nor from BMW Corporate, which is too bad, since the lack of trust in service departments and price gouging have caused me to look elsewhere.
