CIP/Progman updates are software that updates the computer in your car. 26.xx.xx is the version. Currently we have 26 and are waiting for 27. Those software updates are for all BMW's worldwide.
Iceman,
after the upgrade to Progman 25 ?? in May, I had problems with my i-drive LCD display: images on some pages of the variuos menus were very unstable (for example during navigation or in the entertainment menu). In the past three weeks the everything quite well but the system crashed four or five times (till now, switching off, waiting ten minutes and switching on again was sufficient to reset everything).
Do you believe that Progman 26.01 will fix everything? I'll go for a new upgrade on next wednesday but I'm wondering if I'm doing the right move!

Ditto - since v25 upgrade several months back the iDrive now a mind of its own in my e60; it will crash and re-boot when it feels like it! I've had hardware changes (CCC x2) etc. no fix to-date! - Car has been re-programmend with V26.01 step fashion (manually as the controllers can be sensitive it seems), this all to no avail presently the iDrive still crashes and re-boots.

I do hope that your's is fixed by V26, however using mine as an example it would suggest that the science is not proven nor reliable................

Brought my 535d in on Thursday for regular service and a software update (again) to get rid of the transmission slam and to stop the CD player from playing up to 4 tracks in an empty car ;-).
Got it back on Friday with a 'bricked' board computer.
The I-drive screen is completely dark and only shows my front and rearview camera's when I put the car in reverse.
I also lost my HUD .
They couldn't tell what the exact problem was but I have to wait at least a week for new parts to arrive.
I've heard of issues with the cam controller but that should have been fixed last time (2-3 months ago) when they also did a software upgrade, they kept the car for a week to wait for new parts.
I'm starting to get tired of all this, the car only has 20k kms and has been at the dealers for more than 15 times.

There's one good thing though.... It seems that the car shifts much smoother now (dunno if they changed something in v26).

My wife took my car in for an MP3 retrofit on Saturday, it was the first time my dealer had done anything like this. Over three hours later the car came back with the updated iDrive screens. Does this mean that the dealer has accidentally upgraded my software to one of the 26.xx versions or that a software upgrade is a requirement of the MP3 retrofit (I was running CIP 24.02)?

Also, will I have to re-pair my 'phone to the BT module?

On the plus side at least I get to listen to my MP3 disks!!

Thanks for that Andy, I don't think the dealership realised that they would end up installing the new software version - I'll have to hope that there are some benefits in addition to being able to play mp3 CD's!!

Just got my car back with an updated CIP. WOW! New screen, GPS and tranny seems a lot smoother. I am not sure of the version as I have NAV. Can I use the standard hidden menu trick?

Will not tell you anything if you can even use it now. Some have reported that the iDrive (not dash) hidden menu technique no longer works. However, I may be confusing true LCI vehicles with those updated with v26.xx.xx and higher. In any case those of us with nav cannot determin CIP (PROGMAN) level. Did you get any copies of your "reports" such as Measures Plan or Final Report. Those provide your old and new Target Data Status (TDS) which can be translated into a PROGMAN level (to some extent). Current TDS from 25.02.00 on is E60-07-03-525. I say to some extent as recently we have seen the TDS remain the same from 25.02.00 (back in May) through the most recent updates accomplished in August even though dealers have been stating v26.xx or even v27.xx. I believe this is due to the fact that no car functions have been changed. Only the way the dealer equipment handles PROGMAN or how it behaves DURING the update process.

Many that have had problems with recent updates might try going back in for re-programming as the quirks and outright errors in the upgrade process can leave gremlins in the many modules that are updated. That is why BMW (or their supplyer) are having to make these tweakes to the software even though no real fixes to the vehicles systems.
