Thought about trying to get something out of it, like what RAS1398 wrote above?
You may want to find a paintshop / repair garage that will do you a bill for X for the "respraying only", i.e. a bill for the insurance company, but infact do more for you - maybe some other mods?
I'm not saying this is right or wrong, and not going to comment on the ethics of this approach. Just possibly something worth considering for you.
Good luck with it all and hopefully it gets sorted with as little stress as possible...

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
I'd check back with the PD, on those security tapes. Those things are usually re-recorded over the next 48 hours. If they caught anything, they would have to have saved it right after the event.

PS I had my 540 6spd keyed in the infield parking lot at the NY State Fair--i.e. reserved for exhibitors, officials, etc. It doesn't always have to be a kid...just a small mind.

I'm very sorry to hear the news. I took the family for ice cream a couple months ago in town early on a Friday night. Some Mother F^$^$## put a door ding into my new e90 driver's door. I had it repaired to 95%. Some people are so jealous of hard working folks. They think they are proving something by trying to destroy our property. Idiots! Take care.
