Hey everyone,

I'm picking up my new 545i this Friday and am wondering if a remote car starter is available for this model. I've been told by some that it cannot be done without too much trouble. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I live up in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Thanks,

Leon

Welcome heli_ca! Be safe with Your new e60.

About remote starter can't say a thing, because have not heard anyone try to install that. Have not heard that there is available this kind of gadget.

Some have had enough problems starting the car with the key in the ignition.

Hi there,

I understand that your from Canada and remote start is a great convenience. However from what I've read, having a car idling to warm up creates wear and tear on the engine not to mention the higher emissions. Unfortunately, just idling fails to create sufficient heat in a short period of time. So fiction in the engine is much higher than if you started your car and drove away at a moderate speed. This may be less of a problem with the r6 engine which has an electric water pump that switches on and off. Just a few thoughts to consider.

Thinking of a 545i white/beige, sport/step/cw/prem/nav/hud/satrad

The best is the external heater with remote. Car gets warmed up, engine gets partially warmed up, less emissions, less wear and tear on the engine, more mpg and the car is warm. :winkcool:
Unfortunately this option is not available in all countrys.

Hi,

That sounds like an option, do you have a website that i can visit to check it out? I live in Canada and most people here use a remote car starter to start the car for 10 miniutes to warm engine and interior. I've not heard of what you speak of, so I'm quite interested.

Thanks

Leon
