we needed another dependable vehicle so my wife found a good deal on a 05 5301, high milage but dealer maintained, after having battery issues from the get go which the dealer took care of thank goodness, car was fine until last night when the idrive started to fail i suppose, blank screen then bmw logo, no nav or radio, after researching here i rebooted no luck, then this morning it booted and worked fine for about 30 minutes then same deal blank screen etc, can these be rebuilt or repaired??? found 2 on ebay for 600 can i install myself then take to dealer for update?? getting frustrated with our bmw, we love this car but after 3 weeks of ownership its not looking good.

check to see if your CCC drive is overheating. the cooling fan for the CCC drive can fail, and is serviceable independent of the drive.
Keep in mind that it's a 9 year old car. Though you may have gotten it for somewhere in the mid-teens, it is always going to carry the running costs of a ~$60,000 car.
good luck with the car.

ALL 9 year old high mileage cars will have their problems which SHOULD be expected by any competent buyer, regardless of brand.
While I don't have a fix for your Idrive, Im sure plenty here could/may help diagnose…good luck.

LoL, if you want something dependable, 9 years old, and high mileage. You should have get a Toyota. BMW is a fun car, and only for the enthusiasm BMW lover. I have mine for almost 8 yrs, and surely I had a handful of problems in those years. But thanks to community such as 5series.net and the alike sites and it's members, whom take time for DIY write up and keep my car on the road. I've learned a lot from these folks and a lot about my car. It will be hard to let it go one day.
But Dude, stop being frustrated and judgmental. I can guarantee there is someone on here can give you a hand. ONLY if you search hard enough. It's amazing what you can do with your web browser search function this day.
Good luck.

Have you tried disconnecting the negative battery lead for 10-15 minutes and reconnecting? A majority of these cars' electrical hiccups can be solved that way. With so many computers in your car, an occasional reboot never hurts...
I would also check the cooling fan for the CCC unit.
I wouldn't worry too much about the dependability of your car, you actually have the last year of the truly reliable ones. I have over 206k on my 2005, and it runs great.
