Hi

I'm glad I'm not the only person who prefers a manual! The dealers really try to push to autos.

I have only done about 250 miles in the car, and the gear-change seems fine between all gears so far. I have come from an E39 M5, which had a pretty heavy gear-change. I'll keep you posted on any problems as the car gets run in.

Mark
I recently took delivery of a new E60 525d M Sport (LCI with the same 3.0d engine, albeit slightly 'de-tuned') and also went for a manual gearbox. I have to say I think this engine and gearbox are suited perfectly and am pleased with my choice. Must say also that I have noticed that 1st to 2nd changes are a little 'stiffer' than between other gears but there is no clunk. My car has done approx. 2K miles in about 3 weeks (excessive few weeks at work mileage wise) and so I'm guessing is not fully run in yet.

In terms of 'trade in values' suffering with a manual, yes I think this is the case but this will maybe not effect mine as much, as I was told several 525d's are specced with manuals, but not so many 530d's. To be fair to my dealer, he did not try to push an Auto onto me and accepted the car as I specced no problem.

congrats on the new car. AS for trade in values .. each to their own .. but youve saved ?1400 streight away. So any hit is subsidised by that amount.

Also skiped AS for my new 5er, had it on my old one, tried a LCI without, felt like a much lighter and fun to drive car. And since they have almost doubled the charge for AS since I bought the old one, the choice was easy.
