On the older E60s that have the traditional key when starting the car you don't need to wait for the engine to finish cranking before you release the key. It's more like just pushing a button. I've gotten so used to this feature that I often release the key too soon when I start my fiancee's Ford.
On my SMG, the gear shift doesn't need to be moved all the way up or down to register a shift, just a quick nudge is usually sufficient.

My Ride: 2008 Silverstone II E60 M5 2012 E70 AW X5 50i Sport w/ LCI Aero Kit and Rocker Panels
1. Rub each center cap on all 4 wheels.
2. Rub each roundel (front and back)
3. Walk to the backside of the car.
4. Close your eyes and spin around as fast as you can, until dizzy.
5. Open your eyes and............WA-LAH!
Your car should now be a new M5. If it doesn't work, try it over and over again in a very crowded parking lot with a lot of people around.

It's not necessary to push the ON/OFF button to turn on the audio system on the new 2008 LCI. Pushing the band switch (AM/FM) or Mode buttons will activate the system. The band switch button also allows one to toggle throught AM/FM/Weather bands.

not so neat but handy to know: if your navigation DVD won't come out you can retry after the car has been to 'sleep' (so after you park and lock it, wait some 15minutes or so)
mine gets unreadable if I pre-heated the interior (air) and start driving. After a while something goes wrong and it won't read it any more. probably gets fogged up as the drive is cold, the DVD gets hot from the laser. Not sure if it's better if the whole car is cold (so including the interior air).
Stupid thing is that after calculating a route you can take out the DVD (business system, not the dual player Professional one) and keep guidance. But if the DVd becomes unreadable somewhere during flight, it stops guiding.
small trick: no cupholders up front? use the back seat armrest (I have cupholders in that, not sure if that is standard)
