YOur dealer is absolutely wrong. No doubt at all. The quickest place that you can find it without reading the manual is in the Sales Brochure on page 13 which explains that the purpose of the Shark Fin is as a Global Psitioning Satelite Receiver as well as antennas for BMW assist and FM/Phone antenna.

Tell your dealer to RTFM. This is a basic piece of information that he should know.
