No you do not need a dual layer. The ISO file will fit on a DVD.. Here is a link for instructions on how to burn the ISO file

If all you see is Car Data on the right side of the iDrive home screen and you DO NOT have a DVD drive below the normal CD player on your center console you do not have NAV.

I would not recommend using this DVD, it would always freeze up. Put in an authorized dealer purchased copy and it's beeing working fine for over a month. Not worth the risk to save some money.
