Ok, this is probably the first of many newbie questions, as I just purchased my first E60. Just sold my '98 E39. Anyway, I noticed that I have the dvd slot for the navigation. I'm assuming I need to buy the dvd to get started. Is there a monthly fee for nav (like satellite radio)? What is the difference between nav-pro and nav-bus? Is this considered an option on my car or is it standard? The car is a 2004 (8/04 build). Thanks!

I'll take a stab. Even though your car is used, a NAV disk might have have been included. There are several possible reasons why you did not get a disk, but I won't get into those. You'll need to check with the seller. I have not renewed my NAV yet, but, as I recall, there is an annual fee for a new disk. MY understanding is that the only NAV available on an E60 in the US with your build date is pro NAV. If I have led you astray, then others will fix my errors.

If you are located in the U.S. you have Nav pro. I believe the latest disk is 2005-2 and it is available thru NAVTEQ @ 888 628-6277, about $225. There is no yearly or subscription fee, you just buy a new disk if you want whenever a new one is available. It would be helpful if you updated your location and your car specs in your signature. Specs are different in other parts of the world and a correct answer in the U.S. may not be correct in England. Congrats on the new car, I am sure you will enjoy it.

Thanks for the info. I'm in the U.S. I'll update my specs in the next week or so. I just picked up the car today. Tomorrow I'm getting the euro reflectors and 35% tint. Next week is 19" staggered milanos, h&r springs, and 545 grill. The week after that.... who knows! I have to stop spending time in this forum!

Has anyone seen the North American 2005-2 Nav DVDs for sale on eBay? There is a guy selling them for $100 shipped. I sent the seller an email asking if it was Nav-Pro or Bus. He replied "As long as It is a MKIV DVD Navigation system it should work". How can I tell? I'm in the U.S. my prod date was 8/04. I have the Nav DVD. I really can't get anymore info from i-drive on the navigation. As soon as I click on "Navigation", it asks me to insert the DVD. Can anyone tell me if this DVD will give me the mapping? I looked at the seller's history and seems like there are a lot of satisfied BMW owners who purchased the DVD.

MKIV is the older DVD-based navigation system fitted to (for example) an X5. So AFAIK this Disc won't work in your car. If buying from Ebay, make sure you look specifically for mention of the E60 and the other newer models sharing the same Disc-type at least, such as:

"This will fit E87(1 Series), E90/91(New 3 Series), E60/61(New 5 Series), E63/64(6 Series) satellite navigation systems"

I see you're in the U.S, so the actual BMW part number of the disc you want is 65900398540.
